Inflation from Extra Dimensions
نویسنده
چکیده
The radial mode of n extra compact dimensions (the radion, b) can cause inflation in theories where the fundamental gravity scale, M , is smaller than the Planck scale MP . For radion potentials V (b) with a simple polynomial form, to get the observed density perturbations, the energy scale of V (b) must greatly exceed M ∼ 1 TeV: V (b) ≡ MV ∼ 10−4MP . This gives a large radion mass and reheat temperature ∼ 10 GeV, thus avoiding the moduli problem. Such a value of MV can be consistent with the classical treatment if the new dimensions started sufficiently small. A new possibility is that b approaches its stable value from above during inflation. The same conclusions about MV may hold even if inflation is driven by matter fields rather than by the radion.

Primordial Inflation and Present-Day Cosmological Constant from Extra Dimensions
A semiclassical gravitation model is outlined which makes use of Casimir vacuum energy fluctuations in extra compactified dimensions to produce the present-day dark energy density. The model is based on (4+D)-dimensional gravity, with D = 2 extra dimensions with radius b(t) curled up at the ADD length scale b0 ≈ 0.1 mm. Primordial inflation of our three-dimensional space occurs as in the cosmol...
متن کاملRadion Cosmology in Theories with Universal Extra Dimensions
We discuss cosmology of models with universal extra dimensions, where the Standard Model degrees of freedom live in a 4 + n dimensional brane, with n compact and small extra spatial dimensions. In these models, the simplest way to obtain the conventional 4-dimensional Planck scale starting with a low string scale is to have also some larger extra dimensions, where only gravity propagates. In su...
متن کاملLovelock inflation and the number of large dimensions
We discuss an inflationary scenario based on Lovelock terms. These higher order curvature terms can lead to inflation when there are more than three spatial dimensions. Inflation will end if the extra dimensions are stabilised, so that at most three dimensions are free to expand. This relates graceful exit to the number of large dimensions.
متن کاملLarge extra dimensions, the galaxy power spectrum and the end of inflation
We consider the production of gravitational KK modes via cosmological photon-photon and electron-positron annihilation in models with large factorisable extra dimensions. We place constraints on this production using recent results from a joint analysis of the power spectra of the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGS) and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. We obtain a more accurat...
متن کاملDoes the BICEP 2 observation of cosmological tensor modes imply an era of nearly planckian energy densities ? Chiu
BICEP2 observations, interpreted most simply, suggest an era of inflation with energy densities of order (1016GeV)4, not far below the Planck density. However, models of TeV gravity with large extra dimensions might allow a very different interpretation involving much more modest energy scales. We discuss the viability of inflation in such models, and conclude that existing scenarios do not pro...
